En dag i året annekterer en gruppe innbyggere i San Francisco kantstensparkeringsplasser i byen. I steden for å rulle bilen inn på plassen ruller de ut gressteppene, setter opp stoler og bord og nyter byens liv og røre. Noe for norske byer? Klikk HER for film fra streetfilms.org!

- James H Kunstler discuss “suburbia” (click to respond)

James Howard Kunstler (born in 1948, New York City, New York) is an American author, social critic, public speaker, and blogger. He is best known for his books The Geography of Nowhere (1994), a history of American suburbia and urban development, and the more recent The Long Emergency (2005), where he argues that declining oil production is likely to result in the end of industrialized society as we know it and force Americans to live in smaller-scale, localized, agrarian (or semi-agrarian) communities. He has written a science fiction novel conjecturing such a culture in the future, World Made by Hand in 2008. He also gives lectures on topics related to suburbia, urban development, and the challenges of what he calls “the global oil predicament” and a resultant change in the “American Way of Life.” He is also a leading proponent of the movement known as “New Urbanism.”

- 1905-2005 The century of traffic security (click to respond)

Came across two videos from Market Street in San Francisco. Take a tram ride downthe street to the Ferry Building in 1905 and 2005 and see the change in how webehave in the street scene. More disciplined? 1905 was the year before the greatearthquake in which ALL the buildings in this film was removed with the earth! (apartfrom the Ferry Building).
Remember to run both the videos at the same time - and select the sound on the 1905version!

It has a background in the UN package of measures for road safety based on the 1.3 million traffic fatalities per year worldwide. We certainly have much to teach!

- The future Bjørvika – the future Oslo (click to respond)

The film shows the qualities of urban plan in Oslo. It is based on a digital 3D model and tried to set about ten years ahead. It shows in other words, not necessarily exactly how it is, but suggests how urban spaces work. …
The video will be added under the ”examples / Oslo “
